Splay shoes generally run true to size.

However, due to Splay's unisex sizing and barefoot shoe shape, there are some slight differences for men and for women:

  • Women: If you are in-between sizes, we recommend that you order the larger size. If anything, Splay shoes run a little small for women.
  • Men: If you are in-between sizes, we recommend that you order the smaller size. If anything, Splay shoes run a little large for men.

    finally a barefoot skate shoe!

    at long last! looks and feels like vans, but finally my toes are free and I'm able to skate without fear of rolling my ankle due to my toes being unable to move. I would note however that these, contrary to what is said on the sizing page, do run a little small. I wear a eu43 in every shoe I've ever worn but had to size up in the splays as the 43 had my toes pressed against the end of the shoe. took me two returns before I got the sizing right. although of course, every foot is different. now that I've figured out the sizing I will certainly be ordering these again. hopefully this is the start of a trend in skate shoes as thus far this seems to be the only wide toe box option out there!

    Great Converse or Vans alternative

    These are a great sub for Vans or Converse. Finally a shoe that rocks the OG vibe! Fit is great. Shoe laces could be longer...They rub a bit on your ankles...The tongue is a little awkward, but the toe box is wide and amazing!! Would like to see a little more flex in the ankle area, but you guys nailed it!!

    So hard to put on

    There's no pull tab on the back, making them incredibly hard to get into due to how soft they are. Increases my getting ready time by so much that I am either late or just choose less roomy shoes for my toes.

    Great first step in wide toe box skate shoes. ALMOST perfect

    I have been looking for a skate shoe with a wide enough toe box for 10+ years. I was so excited to see Splay offer this shoe and they have done a lot of things right. The aesthetic design looks great and fits in well with skateboarding culture. The laces are lasting good and the bottom is grippy and seems to hold up well.

    The shoe is really really good and I'm so grateful for Splay making a skate shoe. I have to give it 4/5 because there are a just couple of key areas that could be improved to better meet the needs of skateboarders.

    The biggest issue is the canvas toe box. This is an extremely high wear area for skaters that do typical skateboarding (tricks, street, skatepark type skateboarding). The canvas was burned through in the first session for me. There is a rubber layer underneath the canvas, which is a benefit, but a hole still formed within a few weeks of less frequent skating than I normally do, and I'm a fairly casual skater in general.

    Everything else about the shoe is perfect and if they offer a version with full suede or leather toes it will be the ultimate skate shoe. That's the only reason for the 1 star deduction since as they are they need additional modification to work for normal skateboarding. I patched up the hole with some scrap suede and on my next pair i'm going to heavily pre-treat with Shoegoo or KG's bootguard or something similar.

    If you just cruise or longboard or are wearing the shoes for normal use then this wouldn't be an issue for…

    Game Changer

    Have loved vans my whole life-have not loved the tight toe box. Started realizing that most of my flat foot/overpronating problems are the result of narrow steel toe work boots and narrow toe box skate shoes. These felt right the minute I put them on. Even took them on a few light runs at the skatepark and they feel amazing. Can feel my toes/feet getting stronger. Wish they had these for kids, I would put mine in them instantly as well. Please keep making these and making more colorways. I usually wear a 10.5 in most shoes, although the sizing recommended was 10 I ended up sending back for an 11.
