As a former fan of classic New Balance (, I wore them religiously in my late teens), I was very excited to see Splay's V1s. I had read somewhere online that though they resembled running shoes and were called the 'Runner', no one should actually be running in them. I've been wearing BF and minimalist footwear exclusively for over 15 years, and am also an experienced runner. I can't speak to the longevity of the V1s, with wear and tear, as I haven't had them for very long. But, I _can_ say that for anyone who's accustomed to 5-6mm stack height, or less, the thicker zerodrop foam soles in the V1 are actually _very_ comfortable to run in. And, with just the right amount of protection on pavement, while still providing a barefoot environment for the muscles and ligaments. If transitioning from the Hokas and Brooks of the running world, be sure to mind your heel strikes! But, to restate my point. V1s are great for active BF runners, especially on pavement.

These were my first running shoes with a wide toe box and I’ll never run in narrow shoes again . I like the simplicity of the design. Perfect fit. They’re not the most durable running shoes I’ve owned but they are the most comfortable. Strongly recommend them, especially at this price point.

I love Splay, but these didn't hit the mark for me. When the sidewalk is wet from rain or sprinklers this show slips and is unstable. I got them to jog, but even walking when the sidewalk is wet is concerning so I don't plan to jog in them.
